Effects of Tree Size and Bark Roughness of Parkia Biglobosa on Lichen Colonization in Amurum Forest Reserve: Implication for Conservation

Abstract
The bark of Parkia biglobosa was analyzed at diameter at the breast height (DBH) for presence of lichens species and their abundance in terms of cover size. There was a weak and non-significant relationships between DBH of trees and species diversity of lichens; DBH and species richness of lichens; and, DBH and species evenness of lichens. Relationship between DBH and cover of lichen species was found to be the only positive and significant result (r = 0.56, p-value = 0.04). Also, there was no significant effect of bark texture on lichen species diversity (F2,27 = 0.217, p-value = 0.806) and cover (F2,227 = 1.99, p-value = 0.139). There was preference in lichens species distribution with regard to bark texture. Both inside and outside of the reserve forest, and different sizes of Parkia biglobosa trees are necessary for the conservation of maximum diversity of lichens species.
